The knife adapter was originally designed by the military to secure your KA-BAR knife and sheath to your LBV vest in a upside down position in your shoulder chest area allowing the knife to be maintained and localized in a upper body area making it quickly accessible when needed. Although originally designed for the shoulder area, it's strapping design allows it to also be mounted on utility belts, ruck sacks, BA, or anywhere an available strap or belt is accessible.
